What to Bring to Hot Yoga Class: The 7 Essentials You Actually Need

What to Bring to Hot Yoga Class: The 7 Essentials You Actually Need

Hot yoga is one of the most powerful, detoxifying, and sweat-drenched workouts you can do — but walking into a 105°F studio unprepared? Not so fun.

Whether you're a seasoned yogi or about to take your first class, having the right gear makes all the difference in your focus, comfort, and safety.

Here are the 7 must-have items to bring to your next hot yoga class:

1. A Non-Slip Hot Yoga Towel

This is not the time for a beach towel or old bath mat. In hot yoga, your mat will turn into a slip-and-slide without a towel that’s built to grip.

At Unalome Yoga, we created eco-friendly hot yoga towels that:

  • Stay in place with non-slip backing

  • Soak up sweat so you don’t slide mid-pose

  • Are made from recycled materials

  • And yes — they’re machine washable!

Pro tip: If you're practicing hot yoga more than once a week, grab two towels so you can rotate between washes.

2. A Big Refillable Water Bottle

You’ll lose a lot of fluids. Bring a large, reusable water bottle (32 oz or more) and drink before, during, and after class. Extra points for insulated bottles that keep water cold.

3. Lightweight, Sweat-Wicking Clothes

Look for breathable fabrics and fitted pieces that won’t shift or sag when soaked. Think high-rise leggings and compression-style sports bras — and avoid 100% cotton at all costs.

4. A Quick-Dry Small Towel

This one’s for your face and hands — especially if you sweat a lot or wear eye makeup. A small microfiber towel works best and fits right at the top of your mat.

5. A Clean Change of Clothes

Trust us: You will not want to drive home in your soggy yoga set. Pack fresh clothes (and maybe even wipes or deodorant) to freshen up post-class.

6. Easy Slip-On Shoes

Studios usually ask you to leave your shoes outside the practice room. Choose sandals or slides you can quickly slip on/off — and that won’t hold onto sweat.

7. An Open Mind + Humble Heart

Cheesy? Maybe. But necessary. Every hot yoga class is a chance to meet yourself again — on a deeper level. Some days you'll feel strong, others messy and emotional. All of it is welcome.

Final Word

Your practice is sacred — and sweaty. Having the right gear helps you stay grounded, safe, and connected from your first deep breath to final savasana.
