What 10 Years of Hot Yoga Taught Me About Towels — and Why I Designed My Own

What 10 Years of Hot Yoga Taught Me About Towels — and Why I Designed My Own

When you’ve spent over 10 years practicing hot yoga, you learn a few things — like how to breathe through intensity, how to listen to your body... and how impossible it is to find a yoga towel that actually works.

I started Unalome Yoga with my husband because I couldn’t find a towel that supported my practice the way I needed it to — grippy, beautiful, absorbent, and eco-conscious. Everything I tried either slipped during class, bunched up and moved around, lost its grip after a few washes, or just didn’t feel inspiring to practice with.

Every towel felt like a compromise — so I stopped settling and started designing.

Why Most Towels Don’t Work for Hot Yoga

Over the years, I tried everything — cheap towels, expensive ones, even towel-mat hybrids. Here’s what I found:

  • Most are made from generic microfiber that gets slippery when wet

  • Many have little or no grip backing — so they bunch and move

  • Most aren’t machine-washable, or they fall apart after a few washes

  • Almost none are designed with intention, beauty, or sustainability in mind

What I Needed (and Designed)

After a decade of downward dogs, puddles, and peeling towels off the floor, I knew exactly what a hot yoga towel should be:

  • Non-slip grip that actually holds to the mat

  • Ultra-absorbent top layer to soak up sweat without feeling heavy

  • Sustainably made with recycled materials and AZO-free dyes

  • Machine washable and durable enough for daily use

  • And it had to be beautiful — because the way something looks impacts how you feel

That’s what we’ve built at Unalome Yoga.

Unalome Towels: Made by a Hot Yoga Practitioner, For You

These towels were designed by someone who knows what it’s like to:

  • Slip halfway through a vinyasa

  • Try to ground in a pose but feel your towel shift

  • Carry around a soaking-wet towel after class

  • Want your gear to feel as elevated and intentional as your practice

Unalome Yoga towels were born from experience, obsession, and love for this practice. They’re not mass-produced by a factory team who’s never stepped into a 105° studio. They’re made by a yogi who’s lived it — and wanted better.

From My Mat to Yours

Whether you’re new to hot yoga or deep in your journey, the gear you choose matters. It affects how you feel, how you move, and how connected you can stay to your breath.

If you’re still searching for the right towel — I’ve got you.
